Occupational Therapy and Social Networking

Social Networking for Occupational Therapists. The old adage It’s not what you know, it’s who you know couldn’t be farther from the truth in any occupational field today, especially with the ability to exponentially increase contacts using sites like Facebook and Llinkedin.  Occupational Therapists should not only be educated on these types of emerging media, but also understand how to optimize your career and network around these mediums. Here are a few sites and how any Occupational Therapist can use them to maximize their reach.

Facebook:

As if it’s not obvious enough, this site isn’t only about connecting you with your friends and family. It gives you the power to find other OT’s to network with through Facebook Groups. What we love about Facebook groups is that it takes away the old monotonous forum posts of old and gives them a new social spin with a platform that you already know.

Join or start a group and get involved as there are new and/ or old Occupational Therapists that have answers or questions about experiences that you could shed light on. We couldn’t forget the best feature in which you can unsubscribe from a group update if you stumbled upon a hot topic and your email gets barraged with too many updates.

Linkedin:

Linkedin is the Social Network for Professionals. With almost 40 million daily unique visitors If you don’t have a Linkedin profile, register and get moving. This is without question the best resource for increasing your network. Connect with old co-workers request connections with current ones. You can even have recommendations made by your co-workers to validate who you are as an employee, peer, etc. Linkedin does everything for you; they find connections relative to your current connections and display them for you. Don’t forget to check out our Centra Healthcare Linkedin Group.

OT Connections:

Similar to Myspace or Facebook, OT Connections, which was created by American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), wants to create that Social Networking Community with just Occupational Therapists. Although it may be hard to compete with the likes of LinkedIn and/or Facebook, you can still find some added value in sharing content and connections with only OT’s.

Here at Centra Healthcare Solutions, we have many rehab therapy positions just waiting for a skilled Occupational Therapist to fill. Whether you’re looking for the excitement of a travel therapy job, the flexibility of temporary positions or if you desire a regular, full-time position, contact us today.
